 Moria

11 am – 1 pm
BDSS Moria Chappell - Odissi Tribal Fusion Bellydance
Passed from Guru to student for thousands of years, Odissi Indian Temple dance is one of the oldest classical dance forms on Earth. This workshop is designed for you to learn Odissi's most fundamental combinations and exercises and how they can enhance your Tribal Fusion Bellydance performance and practice. As harbinger of this specific style of fusion, Moria was the first to bring these two aspects of movement together: Classical Odissi Indian Temple Dance and Tribal Fusion Bellydance. In workshops around the world, Moria teaches the movements, stances, mudras, and expressions she has learned from her Odissi guru, Ratna Roy, who was a pupil of the last living Mahari (sacred temple dancer). In conjunction with Dr. Roy's instruction, Moria has added her own new and unique blend of esthetics to create Odissi Tribal Fusion Bellydance combinations and choreography. Moria offers each dancer a methodology for bringing this rapidly growing Sacred Arts form into her belly dance repertoire. In ODISSI TRIBAL FUSION BELLYDANCE you will learn the body isolations, temple stance, Odissi posture, sacred geometry, and mudras of this ancient devotional dance and how they can be applied to modern music and movement. Focus will be on technique and combinations, and will culminate in an Odissi Tribal Fusion choreography. 37,- (CFu)

The goal of Javanese courtly dances is to display an elevated, serene composure vis-à-vis the implementation of slow transitions and graceful poses. These dances have an introspective quality stemming from the nature of the dance as a pusaka, meaning a "sacred heirloom," which has descended directly from the royal ancestors, and which may have an honorary title or confer supernatural abilities. In JAVANESE FUSION you will learn these movements as an emotional, spiritual, and physical expression derived from ancient "ancestral treasures" and come to understand that by learning these elegant gestures and poses, a certain numinous quality comes with them. Moria 9:15 am - 11:15 am
BDSS Moria Chappell -YOGINI FUSION "What is here is elsewhere. What is not here is nowhere."
~Mahabharata
The 64 Yoginis of Hirapur reside in niches encircled by a mandala-shaped, open-air temple in Odisha, India. These small, inscrutable statues with their doll-like figures and sweet faces appear eternally juxtaposed to the fierce weapons they so blithely brandish. The temple's images have become the inspiration for Moria's continuing research into their history, legends, mythology, and most importantly, dance. In YOGINI FUSION, Moria introduces these yoginis via a PowerPoint presentation then shares each yogini's unique and exquisite movements along with the essence of her plant or animal vahana, the vehicle she uses to navigate the shamanic realms. In this experiential workshop, the dancer will visually encounter the devas then learn their stances and gestures, a divine alphabet which serves to activate the sacred feminine in order for it to incarnate inside the dancer.
The goal of YOGINI FUSION is to experience the underlying yogini mysteries vis-à-vis shapes and compositions in order to trigger the awakening of the female potential naturally embedded in DNA. These extraordinary energy fields, whose access was restricted or truncated long ago, still reside in your body and can be accessed by your muscles and tendons, rhythms and physical, alchemical responses. When you incorporate YOGINI FUSION into your movement repertoire, you regain the strength, grace, and archetypal knowledge hardwired in your bones. "The 64 Yoginis represent the sum total of energy in the universe." ~Venkat Veeraraghavan -Yogini Researcher.
